Okigwe North: NDC Candidate, Anyanwu, Wins Royal Blessing in Home Community

The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Okigwe North Federal Constituency, Hon. Mike Chidi Anyanwu, popularly known as “CMC,” has received royal blessings and overwhelming support from his traditional ruler, HRH Eze Marcel Agbaka, Eze Nna I of Ugirinna Autonomous Community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The royal endorsement came as Anyanwu commenced his campaign journey with a visit to his home community alongside members of his campaign team on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
During the visit, the candidate formally informed his intention to represent the Okigwe North Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly in 2027.

Presenting the candidate to the traditional ruler and members of his cabinet, the elder brother of the candidate, Barr. Uche Anyanwu, described the visit as a significant first step in the political journey.
He stressed the importance of receiving the blessings of one's people and traditional institution, noting that charity begins at home.

Barr. Anyanwu expressed confidence in the capacity and integrity of Hon. Mike Chidi Anyanwu, describing him as a man of his word who would not disappoint the people if elected.
He said the NDC candidate has the capacity to attract infrastructural development, including improved road networks and other government projects, to the constituency.

Speaking at the event, Chief Mike Chidi Anyanwu expressed appreciation to his traditional ruler and members of the royal cabinet for the warm reception accorded him and his campaign entourage.

While lamenting the poor state of roads in parts of the community, Anyanwu promised to make community development a priority by presenting proposals at the National Assembly and facilitating projects that would improve the lives of his constituents.

According to him, “I am very happy to be in your midst today. I appreciate my brother, Barr. Uche Anyanwu, for leading me well.”

He added: “I am convinced that my people love me ‘CMC’ and repose confidence in me and trust that I will deliver. I will not disappoint them if I am elected.

“My reason for seeking to represent you is to ensure equitable distribution of the national resources and not for personal accumulation.”

Anyanwu, who holds the chieftaincy title of Aku Ruo Ulo I of Ugirinna, said the political journey had officially begun, expressing confidence in his aspiration and determination to represent the people of Isiala Mbano, Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs.

In his royal blessing, HRH Eze Marcel Agbaka prayed for God's protection and guidance upon Hon. Anyanwu throughout his political journey and campaign.

The traditional ruler declared that the people of Ugirinna Autonomous Community and the entire Ugiri Clan would stand by their son as he pursues his aspiration.

Eze Agbaka said it was a thing of joy to see one of their sons aspiring to represent Okigwe North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, assuring him of the community's support.

In his remarks, Chief Ralph Ohalete, a major stakeholder in Ugiri Clan and the Ugwumba I of Ugirinna, expressed optimism that Anyanwu's political aspiration would succeed.

He stated that where others had failed, Anyanwu would succeed, expressing hope that the journey which began at the palace of the traditional ruler would culminate in his inauguration and swearing-in at the National Assembly in 2027.

The event marked the beginning of Hon. Mike Chidi Anyanwu's grassroots consultations as he seeks the mandate of the people to represent Okigwe North Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
