Chief Mike Chidi Anyanwu, popularly known as “CMC,” the NDC candidate for Okigwe North Federal Constituency, has engaged members of the Amaraku G-Unit in football tournament as part of his ongoing grassroots interactions across the constituency.
The engagement, held on Sunday 27th, 2026 at the Secondary School, Amaraku, in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, also featured the official kickoff of the “CMC Football 2026, G-Unit” tournament, aimed at promoting youth participation, unity and community development.
The event attracted youths, community stakeholders, traders, transporters and other residents, who welcomed the candidate and participated in the activities.
One of the organisers disclosed that the tournament was sponsored by the Candidate, Anyanwu at a cost of ₦1 million, in addition to the provision of kits and other materials for the participating teams.
The organiser commended Anyanwu for using the tournament to engage and bring youths together, noting that the competition was designed not only to promote sporting talent but also to provide an avenue for young people to interact, build relationships and strengthen community bonds.
Eight teams participated in the tournament, with each team named after an African country. The opening match between Botswana and Algeria ended 1–0 in favour of Botswana.
In another development, Anyanwu distributed free fuel to commercial transport operators, including motorcyclists and "Keke" operators, at Alphony Oil by CMC, Abajah Junction in Amaraku.
The initiative, according to the candidate, was part of his effort to identify with residents and support transport operators whose daily activities have been affected by rising transportation and operating costs.
The engagement also provided Anyanwu with an opportunity to interact directly with members of the community, listen to their concerns and discuss issues affecting youths, transporters and other groups.
The Amaraku engagement forms part of Anyanwu’s wider grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 elections, as he continues to interact with communities and stakeholder groups across Okigwe North Federal Constituency, comprising Isiala Mbano, Okigwe and Onuimo Local Government Areas.
