FMMP Honours Nwachukwu for Excellence in Ezinihitte Mbaise Development
The Chairman of Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Hon. Sir Chinedu Nwachukwu, has received the Public Service Excellence Award from the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals (FMMP) in recognition of his contributions to grassroots development and service delivery
Nwachukwu received the award on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during the FMMP Lecture Series and Awards held at Chris VI Hotel, Ahiara, Mbaise, as part of activities preceding the annual Iri-ji Mbaise Festival.
The event brought together prominent personalities and stakeholders from government, traditional institutions, academia, the media and the business community.
It also featured a special reception in honour of Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), South-East Zone and an indigene of Mbaise, in recognition of his contributions to journalism and service to the media profession.
Presenting the award, the National President of FMMP, Comrade Patrick Mgbaja, said Nwachukwu was honoured for what he described as his visible commitment to grassroots development, effective administration and the welfare of the people of Ezinihitte Mbaise.
Mgbaja stressed that the award was not based merely on Nwachukwu's position as council chairman, but on projects and initiatives implemented by his administration, which, according to him, had made a tangible impact on the local government.
He urged the chairman to sustain the momentum and continue to place the interests of the people at the centre of his administration.
In his response, Nwachukwu expressed appreciation to the media professionals from the three Mbaise local government areas for recognising the efforts of his administration
He said the recognition indicated that the activities of his administration had been observed and assessed by independent stakeholders.
According to him, the award would further motivate his administration to do more for the people of Ezinihitte Mbaise.
Nwachukwu highlighted more than 31 projects and achievements recorded by his administration, describing them as verifiable and impactful.
Among the projects, he identified the ongoing Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA Secretariat, popularly known as the “Pentagon,” as one of the flagship projects of his administration.
He also listed the construction of high-powered boreholes in 11 autonomous communities across the local government, alongside two additional boreholes at the council headquarters.
The chairman further highlighted the ongoing modernisation of Nkwo Mbaise Market, saying the project was aimed at improving commercial activities and creating a better trading environment.
He disclosed that arrangements had been concluded to energise Agbovu-Itu with a 750KVA transformer to boost electricity supply to homes and businesses in the community.
“Today, I am happy to announce to you that the agreement for the project has been signed,” he said.
Nwachukwu also disclosed that his administration had rehabilitated about 86 kilometres of roads across Ezinihitte Mbaise, noting that the projects were aimed at improving transportation, economic activities and the general wellbeing of residents.
The council chairman attributed his administration's development drive to what he described as the transformational leadership of Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, saying the governor's achievements had inspired him to replicate the development agenda at the grassroots.
He pledged that his administration would consolidate its achievements and continue to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of Ezinihitte Mbaise.
Nwachukwu also appealed for continued support and cooperation from residents, traditional rulers, stakeholders and development partners, assuring them that the award would strengthen his determination to serve the council area.
The recognition further highlights the role of professional media bodies in acknowledging public officials whose administrations demonstrate commitment to responsible leadership, grassroots development and tangible service delivery.
